Clyfford Still is considered one of the most important painters of the 20th century, and was among the first generation of Abstract Expressionist artists. After their deaths, Clyfford Still and his wife, Patricia Still, bequeathed to the City of Denver their estates, which includes more than 3,000 works of art by Clyfford Still and his complete archives.

The Clyfford Still Museum opened in 2011 as an addition to Denver's Cultural Arts District. The two-story, 28,500-square-foot museum is adjacent to the Denver Art Museum, and allows visitors to understand the legacy of Clyfford Still.
