Situated on the Charles River Esplanade to the west, Beacon Hill is just north of the Boston Common and is about one square mile in size. The Charles River Esplanade is a superb stretch of parkland along the Charles River with children's playgrounds, places to rent boats and great access to the Museum of Science. Louisburg Square in Beacon Hill is without question, the most prestigious address in Boston and the cobbled streets and beautiful red-brick homes are well worth a visit.
Beacon Hill – Avoid the Parking Meters
Every description of Beacon Hill mentions the beautifully preserved Georgian architecture, the brick sidewalks, the gas lit narrow streets, which means parking challenge ahead. Like neighboring Back Bay, Beacon Hill is one of the wealthiest residential areas in Boston; it's also one of the oldest, making on-street parking just about impossible. Parking meters are available in the area, but remember that many streets in residential neighborhoods only have on-street parking for residents. There is signage to this effect – don't take a chance! It's far more convenient to park at one of the central garages in Beacon Hill and enjoy the neighbourhood on foot.
Our top choice is Government Center Garage on Congress Street which offers reserved parking ahead of time and special parking rates if you book online.
